About

Bio Bees is helping companies like yours with their commitment to biodiversity

While working close to Mother Nature we noticed a shift in the seasons. Flowering times for many plants have changed and some are growing all year round. This has caused a change in the behaviour of bees and other vital pollinators and threatened their survival.

Bio Bees is a company that has moved from landscaping and grounds maintenance to promoting biodiversity, the native Irish honey bee and pollinators in general.

Our clients wanted more pollinator-friendly shrubs and plants and to avoid using pesticides to help protect the bees and insects in their gardens and businesses.

Helping Irish pollinators

Bio Bees aim is to help companies with their commitment to pollinators and biodiversity.

In the last year we helped Irish Rail's environmental department and a number of other companies to achieve this goal by advising them on pollinator-friendly steps to take - like planting pollen-rich trees and shrubs on their premises. All this helps to protect the native Irish honey bee and other essential pollinator species.

Our commitment to the native Irish honey bee

We have a number of hives at our apiary that are well stocked with native black bees. We use our bees for breeding, honey production and demonstrations for schools and companies.

We make an annual donation to the Native Irish Honey Bee Society and we are currently working with Fingal North Dublin Beekeepers on a queen rearing group in order to improve our output and, most of all, try to prevent our native Irish bees breeding with other, non-native bees.Ultimately, we would like to see a stop to the importation of honey bees onto the island of Ireland.

What is biodiversity?

Biodiversity is a fairly recent word. It means all the variety of life that can be found on earth (plants, animals, fungi and micro-organisms) as well as to the communities that they form and the habitats in which they live.

We are also encouraging companies that have already engaged in helping support biodiversity to update and revitalise their current biodiversity program.
